2nd Tuesday Genealogy Group
October 10 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm MDT
"Genealogical Proof Standard" by Karen Yudnich from Broomfield Genealogy Society

Program: Accuracy is central to genealogical research. Without it, a family’s history would be a misrepresentation of true events. This presentation will discuss the benchmarks that family historians use to obtain valid results. The Genealogical Proof Standard also now addresses DNA. As the practice of genealogy advanced and new methods and technologies emerged, genealogy standards have had to change to keep up. The Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) has modified their existing standards and added seven new standards to help use DNA evidence.
Bio: Karen Yudnich is the Vice President of Broomfield Genealogy. She has been a member and officer for over 8 years, holding the Education Position for 4+ years, President 2 years, and Vice President 2 years. She has found several discoveries since she started doing genealogy. Her 3rd Great Grandfather's family lived one mile from Abraham Lincoln and Abe called William Wood Uncle. Her seventh great grandfather, Harmen Myndertse Van der Bogart came to New Amsterdam (New York City) in what was then called New Amsterdam in 1630 from the Netherland. Harmen kept a journal when he and two other men went into Mohawk country to find out why the Mohawk Indians had quit trading with the Dutch. The book, with all of his words are now in a book called "A Journey into Mohawk and Oneida Country 1634-1635".
Before retirement, Karen worked over 35 years in the medical laboratory profession with her last job at Denver Health. She has 2 sons and one daughter and is married to Bob Yudnich, the current Treasurer of BGS.
